The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sri Sai Ram Engineering College, established in 1995, has steadily advanced into a dynamic center for technical education. Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, the Department is supported by a cadre of highly qualified, experienced faculty and dedicated support staff. This department serves over 350 students and consistently achieves exceptional academic outcomes, including distinctions and university ranks (even gold medals), particularly in the Anna University examinations. A robust placement record further underscores its success in preparing students for professional life.
Academically, the department’s infrastructure is a cornerstone of its quality. It features a well-established Departmental library stocked with a comprehensive collection of technical books, CDs, and journals spanning foundational and advanced topics in mechanical engineering. The laboratories are outfitted with cutting-edge equipment including CNC (Computer Numeric Control) production machines (acquired under the MODROB scheme, valued at ₹37 lakh) and a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), enabling hands-on experience with modern manufacturing technologies. Teaching methodologies are tailored to instill both theoretical understanding and practical competencies, cultivating students into competent engineers and technocrats.
The Department received the ‘Best Industry Linked AICTE-CII Award’ in 2020 and 2015. It also has a Post Graduate Program in Master of Engineering, CAD /CAM program which is focused to prepare graduate students in the multi-disciplinary profession of computer aided design and manufacturing for the challenges and opportunities that abound in modern technology and society. The Department has been recognized as a Research Centre by Anna University for conducting PhD programs and also has a Centre of Excellence in Material Research, Clean Energy, Reverse Engineering. Delphi TVS Technologies Limited, has established the Centre of excellence in the field of advances in fuel injection systems.
The Department has signed MoU with TIEMA (Thirumudivakkam Industrial Estate Manufacturer Association), AIEMA (Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association), COINDIA (Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association) and with many leading Industries for providing Internship opportunities followed by placement. The Department has Professional societies SAE, ISTE, IEI, ISHRAE, IWS, IEEE and QCFI. Our Students participate in formula car competitions and have bagged awards from SAE events like M-BAJA, E-BAJA, SUPRA, TIFAN, Effi-Cycle, Bicycle Challenge and other events like Go-Kart, Solaris, E-bike & Dirt bike.
